Located in the Sandal Town of Tirupattur, Lions Club of Tirupattur Host, a distinguished branch of the globally renowned Lions Clubs International, was officially chartered on 11th April 1975. The club celebrated its 50th year during 2024-2025.

Founded by a group of dedicated community leaders and service-minded individuals, the club was established with a clear vision to address local community needs and foster a spirit of unity and compassion. From its inception, the Lions Club of Tirupattur Host has been committed to upholding the principles of service, fellowship, and ethical conduct that define Lions Clubs worldwide.

Hunger

Lions Club's hunger program provides essential meals to those in need, combating food insecurity in our communities. Through partnerships and volunteer efforts, we strive to ensure that no one goes hungry.

Vision

Environment

Diabetes

Humanitarian

Lions Club is Born

Melvin Jones and fellow Chicago businessmen found Lions Clubs to improve the community.

1920
Lions go International

Lions Clubs become international by chartering a club in Windsor, Canada.

1925
Knights of the Blind

During the international convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, Helen Keller charges Lions with becoming "knights of the blind" in the crusade against darkness.

1944
World's first Eye Bank

The world's first eye bank is created in New York City. Today, most eye banks are Lions-sponsored.

Uniting Nations

Lions assist in drafting the United Nations Charter, starting a lasting bond with the U.N.

1954
Official Motto: We Serve

After an international contest among Lions, an official motto is chosen: "We Serve." The motto was submitted by Lion D. A. Stevenson of Font Hill, Ontario, Canada

Lions Clubs International Foundation

The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is established. Since its founding, LCIF has given more than US$826 million in grants to support the humanitarian work of Lions.

LCI moves to Oak Brook, IL

LCI moves to its fourth and final location in Oak Brook, IL, after decades in downtown Chicago.

Celebrating 1 Million Members

Lions reach a historic milestone by welcoming our millionth member, Barney Gill from Virginia, USA. Today, we have more than 1.4 million members worldwide.

Lion Jimmy Carter becomes POTUS

Lion Jimmy Carter, a peanut farmer from Georgia, becomes President of the United States of America.

Major Catastrophe Grant

LCIF awards its first Major Catastrophe Grant of US$50,000 for earthquake relief in Mexico.

SightFirst

SightFirst is launched, eventually raising more than $415 million dollars to help eradicate major causes of blindness.

1995
Combat River Blindness

LCIF partners with The Carter Center, led by former US president and Lion Jimmy Carter, to combat river blindness in Africa and Latin America.

First female International Director

Nilofer Bakhtiar of Pakistan is elected as the first female international director of the association.

2004
$15 Million Tsunami relief

Lions mobilize more than US$15 million for South Asia tsunami relief following the disaster.

Best NGO to Partner

The Financial Times ranks LCIF as best non-governmental organization worldwide to partner with.

10,000th grant

LCIF awards its 10,000th grant – bringing the total amount awarded to US$708 million.

Centennial Service Challenge

Lions launch the Centennial Service Challenge, a global initiative to serve 100 million people around the world.

District Governor

Lions Club of Tirupattur Host was founded in the Year 1975. The club is currently in it’s 49th year and will be celebrating 50th year come June 2024.

The club was founded on the core values of Lions Club to serve the humanity with the motto of Fellowship and Fraternity.

PMJF Tamil Chemmal Lion Ratna Natarajan is one of the Charter Member  of this prestigious Tirupattur Host Club. He has served the club and distirct in various capacities. He has the honour of serving as the District Governor during the year 1989-1990.
